Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
This policy describes how Youtube To Transcript (“we”, “the extension”, “the service”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Chrome extension, website, and backend API.
You do not need to sign in to read transcripts
The full transcript of any video is shown as soon as caption extraction succeeds — with no account and no sign-in required. You can scroll the transcript, jump to timestamps, switch caption tracks or languages, and copy transcript text while signed out. Signing in with Google is only required for AI features (summaries, notes, quizzes, insights and similar generated content), saved history, and Premium — features that have a real backend cost or are tied to your account. Your transcript is never posted publicly, and reading it does not require an account.
What we collect
- Google account info — Only if you choose to sign in. We receive your name, email, and profile picture via Google / Firebase Authentication.
- YouTube transcript data (for AI features only) — When you use an AI feature, the caption text of that video is sent to our API to generate the output. Outside of AI features, transcript text stays on your device and is never sent to us.
- Usage data — Generation counts, premium status, and cached task metadata are stored in Firebase Realtime Database under your user ID, once you have signed in.
- Local transcript allowance — Free signed-in accounts can open up to 15 distinct video transcripts per Chrome profile. To avoid counting the same video twice, the extension keeps the opened YouTube video IDs only in Chrome local storage. This list is not sent to our server or analytics. Guest transcript access is unchanged and Premium users are unlimited.
- Signed-in transcript activity — When a signed-in user successfully opens a transcript, we record that a transcript was opened for operational reporting. The event may include the account ID/email, plan and local allowance count, but never includes the video ID or title, page URL, transcript text, caption language, or generated content.
- Optional anonymous usage analytics — Off by default. If you enable “Share anonymous usage analytics” in extension settings, the extension creates a random local analytics ID and sends a limited set of product events (for example, transcript copied, sign-in progress, and AI generation progress) to our server, which forwards them to Firebase Analytics / Google Analytics. These events never include transcript or generated text, video titles or IDs, URLs, email addresses, account IDs, or raw error messages. You can turn this off at any time; future analytics events then stop.
- Optional uninstall feedback — If you choose to fill out the uninstall survey, we store your selected reason and any optional comment. We only store an email address if you explicitly type one into the optional field.
- Payment info — Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers. We may store Stripe customer and subscription IDs linked to your account.
How we use data
- Show you the transcript, without requiring an account
- Authenticate you across the extension and website when you choose to sign in
- Generate and cache AI content from transcripts you submit while signed in
- Enforce free-tier limits and activate Premium subscriptions
- Understand aggregate feature use when you explicitly enable anonymous analytics
- Provide support when you contact us
Third-party services
- Google / Firebase — Authentication and user profile storage
- AWS Lambda — API processing and webhook handling
- OpenAI — AI text generation from submitted transcripts
- Stripe — Subscription billing and payment processing
Data retention
Generated tasks and transcript payloads are stored under your Firebase user path while you use the service. Uninstall feedback is retained in aggregate indefinitely for product improvement; individual submissions are capped and rotated. You may request deletion of any account-associated data (your Firebase profile, generation history, and billing linkage) by emailing info@34apps.com from the address associated with your account; we will confirm deletion within a reasonable time.
Security
Premium status and generation limits are set only by our backend (Firebase Admin SDK) after verifying your Firebase ID token server-side. Client apps cannot modify billing or quota fields directly, and AI/generation endpoints require a valid, verified sign-in.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do. Continued use of the service means you accept the revised policy.
